Michael Allen McCamey's Obituary
Honoring and celebrating the life of Michael Allen McCamey, a man known by many names: Officer McCamey to his colleagues, Uncle Mike to his family, and Mac to his close friends. Michael dedicated an impressive 35 years to the United States Capitol Police, serving with distinction and earning the respect of his fellow officers. The 2005 Inaugural Badge #1 and a commendation award stand as a testament to his dedication and service.
Michael's life extended far beyond the badge. Despite never marrying, he became a cherished uncle and even a father figure to many. He loved to shop and always believed in the importance of a good meal. He valued education and was invested in our family’s success. His love for his family was profound, and he was always there when you needed him the most. Michael may not have been perfect, and like all of us, he had his flaws, but his heart was always in the right place. He devoted much of his life to serving others, both through his long and distinguished career and through his countless acts of kindness.
Michael was a man of many passions. He was an avid reader, a bardolater, a talented artist, photographer, history buff, and a raconteur. He loved smooth jazz, watching politics, and sports—specifically golf and tennis. Tennis was a significant part of his life; he was taught by the same people who coached Arthur Ashe when access to tennis for African Americans was rare. Above all, his happiness came from being an uncle. His nieces and nephews were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Michael valued his independence and solitude. He cherished his freedom and lived life on his own terms, whether with unwavering determination or a touch of stubbornness, as he grew older. Today, we remember and celebrate Michael Allen McCamey for the man he was: a dedicated officer, a beloved uncle, a loyal friend, and a person who gave so much to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He will be dearly missed.
