Melzie Stanley Woodward's Obituary
On March 24, 2018, Melzie Stanley Woodward, 93, of Rixeyville, formerly of Castleton, Virginia, departed from this world peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on April 1, 1924 to the late James Stanley and Lorraine Wolfrey Stanley.
Melzie was a loving mother, grandmother, and Nanny. She loved her Lord and Savior and was a member of Gourdvine Baptist Church for over 50 years. Then transferring her membership to Jeffersonton Baptist Church when moving in with her daughter and son-in-law.
Melzie was employed and retired from the Aileen Factory in Flint Hill, Virginia where she worked for over 30 years. She was active in various community organizations such as her local Home Demonstration Club, Castleton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, many church committees and her most important role was being “Nanny” to everyone.
She leaves behind her loving children, one son, four daughters and their spouses, John Woodward of Culpeper, Darlene and Clint Conover of Zion’s Crossroads, Diane and Jackie Myers of Rixeyville, Dale Grimsley and her friend George Campos of Rixeyville, and Donna and Randy Sheads of Rixeyville; and nine cherished grandchildren, Dorenda and Charles Pullen, Tabitha Rudder, John and Marilynn Woodward, Jeffrey and Jennifer Woodward, Sherry Sheads and fiancé, Steve Coleman, Wally and Jaime Sheads, Anthony Grimsley and fiancé, Lisa Woodward, Dana and Clinton Ferris, and Todd Myers.
She is also survived by her devoted “baby” sister, Thelma Lutz of Orange; one sister-in-law, Doris Stanley of Aiken, SC; as well as 28 precious great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Melzie was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, John Thomas Woodward “JT”; her dear grandson, Jason Lee Myers whom Nanny always referenced his beautiful smile; her five brothers, James, Clyde, Ray, Cecil and Douglas Stanley; and her five sisters, Edith Jenkins, Frances Deal, Elsie Lane, Louise Hawkins, and Katherine Wright.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dennis Smith and Pastor Marshall Braylo officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Woodward, Jr., Jeffrey Woodward, Wally Sheads, Andy Grimsley, Todd Myers, Craig Settle, Jr., Charles Pullen and Steve Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin Jenkins, Otis Deal, Jr., Corey Settle, Blake Sheads and Cam Sheads.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Heartland Hospice for all of the wonderful people that worked with our mother. A big special thanks to our amazing nurse, Natalie, who went above and beyond for our family. Donations may be made to Heartland Hospice in memory of Melzie Woodward.
