Melvina "Vinnie" K. Allen's Obituary
Melvina “Vinnie” K. Allen, 91, of Culpeper passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at her home. She was born September 1, 1925 in Radford, VA to the late Sherman and Effie Kanode.
Vinnie has lived in Culpeper for 69 years, where she taught many years ago at Cora Waite’s School on East Street. She was an avid gardener, cook and made many beautiful needlework pieces which will be treasured by her family. She also had a passion for crossword puzzles, which she enjoyed immensely. She loved her family and relished the time she was able to spend with them. Many thanks to her caregivers, who were able to support her wish to remain at home.
She is survived by her only son, Tony Allen and his wife, Brenda of Madison; one sister, Helen Gravely and her husband, Fred of Radford, VA; grandchildren, Toby Allen and his wife, Erica of Reva, Tara Myers and her husband, Damon of Leon, VA; and great grandchildren, Garrett, Hunter and Emmaleigh Allen, Alaina and Andrew Hall, Malachi, Mila, and Eli Myers and Kaleigh Tyler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, B. Jack Allen, Jr.; and two brothers, Marshall Kanode and Joe Kanode.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery (New Section).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
