Melvin Ashby Settle Sr.'s Obituary
Melvin Ashby Settle, 72, of Rixeyville, VA died on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was born on October 8, 1937 in Culpeper, VA to the late Charles and Fannie Dodson Settle.
Mr. Settle was an avid hunter and was a member of the Whitetail Hunt Club in Fluvanna Co. He enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening and his dogs, but above all he cherished his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, June Lorraine Brown Settle, his three children, Melvin Ashby Settle, Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen of Manassas, Teresa Mae Settle and her husband, Maurice Tose of Annapolis, MD, and David Michael Settle and his wife, Katrina of Marshall.
Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Christopher “C.J.” Settle of Marshall and Avery, Madison, Bear, Asher, Schuyler and Austen “Fred” Tose all of Annapolis and three siblings, Charles William Settle, Jr. and his wife, Jessie of Culpeper, Louise Younger and her husband, Charles Lewis, of Culpeper and Kenneth Settle and his wife, Shirley of Rixeyville and his mother-in-law, Margaret Brown of Clinton, MD.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701, with Pastor Rick Pendleton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Settle’s name to the American Cancer Society 2654 Valley Ave. Suite B Winchester, VA 22601 and / or the Alzheimer’s Association 1160 Pepsi Place Suite 306 Charlottesville, VA 22901.
