This girl, Melanie Rose, helped me take the first steps on my path to becoming the woman that I am today. Without her, unconditional love and friendship and the support of her family I honestly don't know if I would have survived my late teens and early twenties. Today I am saying goodbye to a soul that illuminated the universe with her smile and hugged the Earth and its inhabitants with her enormous heart, everyday of her life. I love you more than words can tell. We survived high school and the loss of Jerry Garcia, went to our first Grateful Dead and Phish shows together, spent time together traveling and moving on into the world. In recent years I know that we didn't speak very often but you've always been a part of my heart. I will miss you forever, or at least until we meet again in that big music festival in the sky. Melanie Sheppard Little you are one of the best things that could have happened to this planet in so many ways. We've all been blessed to have you here for as long as we had you here. I love you.
My heart hurts as I write this. I met Melanie when we worked together on Quantico. Her laugh, her smile, her willingness to learn from others and her willingness to share with us her skills in crisis management. Her love of music and her beautiful cats, her undying support for her Steelers and her dry sense of humor. Her light will live on in the wonderful things she did for others—including me. Love, light and strength to all of her family and those who loved her.
