Matthew Douglas Wilkerson's Obituary
Matthew Wilkerson, 37, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Cordele, Georgia died Friday, January 24, 2014, in Dumfries, Virginia from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was preceded in death by his father, Windell Jerry Wilkerson; and his grandparents: Willis D. “Pete” Wilkerson, Leola Patterson Flynn, R. J. Flynn and William “Bill” Patterson.
A 1994 honor graduate of Crisp County High School, Mr. Wilkerson was employed by the Department of Defense. His love of the Georgia Bulldogs led him to the University of Georgia where he graduated in 1999 with a degree in Geography. He was a member of the Georgia Redcoat Band from 1994-1997. He was also proud of his Scottish heritage and had a love for anything Celtic.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Jennifer West Wilkerson, and their children: Benjamin Everett Wilkerson, Abigail Elizabeth Wilkerson and Grace Angeline Wilkerson all of Fredericksburg, Va.; his mother, Angeline Patterson Wilkerson of Fredericksburg, Va.; his brother: Mark E. (Dawn) Wilkerson of Cordele; his paternal grandmother, Lugean Wilkerson of Cordele; his great-aunt Ronnie Ann Holder, his aunt, Cynthia Patterson Brannen of Cordele; his nephews: Christian Wilkerson, Jordan Wilkerson and Andrew Wilkerson all of Cordele; and his cousins: Christopher Patterson (Amanda) Flynn and their children Colby and Justin of Cordele; Daniel Korey Penney of Cordele, Kimberly Dawn Adkins of Savannah, Richard “Byrd” (Anna) Holder and their children Austin Hitson, Brittany Hitson, Chasity Holder and Hannah Holder of Cordele.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at St. George’s Episcopal Church. A pot luck will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. (The pot luck is being coordinated at http://www.facebook.com/rememberingmatthewwilkerson)
