Matthew Franklin Oakes' Obituary
Matthew Franklin Oakes, 56, of Fredericksburg, VA passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 6, 2025. He was born in Quantico, VA on September 20, 1968.
Matthew loved fishing, hunting and gardening, especially being in the woods, on the water, and barbequing with his family and friends. He enjoyed listening to music particularly the bands Clutch and AC/DC, and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He spent most of his younger years growing up in Cherry Hill, VA, which he was extremely proud of. In 2003, Matthew built his own roofing company from the ground up, becoming president of River Oakes Roofing, Inc.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Wyndy L. Oakes; his son, River F. Oakes; his mother, Charlotte Pinder; three stepchildren, Bethany R., Destiny F., and E. J. K.; nine grandchildren; several siblings, Stephanie and Mike Wyne, Gregory and the former Mary Oakes, Carol and John Schembari, Linda and James Johnson, Chris and Nina Pinder, and Annisa and Kevin Staats; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, September 19. 2025 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg; where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Abel Cemetery in Triangle, VA.
Following burial, everyone is invited to a reception to reflect and share memories of Matt at the Eagles Club, 21 Cool Springs Road, Fredericksburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to help with the hospital, medical and burial cost.
