Matthew David Kiger's Obituary
Matthew David Kiger, of Sperryville Va., passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2024 at the age of 51.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Ruth Dwyer (Kiger) of Sperryville Va., his father, Orville Kiger of Wilmington N.C., his sister, Angie Kiger (Giles), and his beloved nieces, Sophia and Eden Giles.
Matthew graduated high school from Rappahannock County High School in 1990 & went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from Strayer University. He ultimately fulfilled three of his (many) life-long goals by becoming a computer engineer, receiving his high-security clearance, and working for the Defense Dept. in Charlottesville, VA.
Matthew was a gentle man who will always be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, infectious laughter, his love of books, music, movies, and most creatures big and small. He had a thirst for knowledge that couldn't be quenched and would have happily shared with and help nurture in anyone who asked.
Matthew was happiest when practicing and sharing his love for his immediate family, hanging out with his best friends, Gordon, Laura & family ( especially on football night), chatting with his friends at work and on Facebook, and being part of a huge extended family of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd cousins.
Matthew belongs to the mountains of his ancestors and we had to give him back too soon. We feel so privileged to have been given the gift of him in our lives for the time we were allowed and to experience the fierce loyalty of his love. He loved with every ounce of his being and his light touched every soul he encountered.
Thank you, "uncle" Matt. We cherished every moment we had with you and will hold on tight to the memories you left behind. We miss you, we love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Matt's life at a future time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, Matthew would have loved & appreciated a donation in his honor to St. Judes Children's Hospital.
