Mary Ellen Flaherty's Obituary
Mary Ellen Flaherty, 83, of Fredericksburg passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at her home. She was born to Daniel and Julia McAuliffe on December 20, 1938 in New York.
Mary raised her children and obtained an associate’s degree in accounting. She specialized in managing credit unions. She loved to travel, exploring North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and Europe extensively. She made sure to take trips with all of her grandchildren and they have special memories of those times.
An avid gardener, she left a beautifully landscaped yard and garden in every home she graced. A keen intellect, she enjoyed the challenges of crossword and jigsaw puzzles and played a mean hand of cards.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Denis Flaherty; children, Eilise Flaherty, Ellen Brewster (Steve), and Kenneth Flaherty (Karen); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Areyzaga and many nieces and nephews.
