Mary Alice Boutchyard's Obituary
Mary Alice Boutchyard peacefully passed away at the age of 98 on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.
She was a lifelong resident of Stafford County and grew up in an area known to the community as “Terrapin Thickets”.
She was an only child and enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by her parents, grandparents and childhood playmates. As a young woman, she worked her first job at the Young Men’s Shop in downtown Fredericksburg until she married. Later in life, she worked in banking and retired after 15 years.
She loved music and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. She taught herself the guitar, and encouraged her children to learn an instrument to share her love of music.
She was often described as sweet and kind from all who knew her. Although she was a quiet and gentle person, she had a surprising sense of humor that made her more endearing. She was known as “Spooty” by those who knew her well, a nickname given to her as a child.
After retirement, she loved spending time with her family, taking morning walks with her husband, Leroy, gardening and spending time at home. She also helped care for their only grandchild, Sara, who held a special place in their hearts. Her family was blessed with a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Daniel “Danny” Boutchyard, and Susan Brown (Ricky); and granddaughter, Sara Haskins (Hali).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eula and Nannie Snellings; and husband, Albert “Leroy” Boutchyard.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Hull’s Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hull’s Memorial Baptist Church, 420 Enon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
