Martha Washington Weakley's Obituary
Martha Washington Jenkins Weakley, 77, of Sperryville, was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Cedars Rehabilitation Center in Charlottesville, VA where she had been a patient for the past five weeks. She was born February 22, 1929 in Sperryville, VA to the late Charlie B. and Nettie P. Jenkins.
Mrs. Weakley was an avid gardener and loved beautiful flowers. She was of Baptist faith belonging to Piedmont Baptist church in Sperryville. Four of her six children were born at home at her lifelong residence on Jenkins Hollow Rd, now known as Rolling Rd. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to all who knew and loved her. She was a beautiful woman who gave them life and her love. From the day her children took their first breath, she watched over them, and as they grew up no matter what bumps and scrapes they endured, she was always there. She never stopped being a mother, even when it meant using a switch and it was occasionally needed. She saw them through threatening storms because she knew there would be a rainbow. What she was “they became” and they are so proud to be like her. All that they are or even hope to be is because of God and their mother. She touched so many people’s lives and will always be a living presence in the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by five children, Andrew J. Weakley and his wife, Diana of Sperryville, Wilson Clifton Weakley and his wife, Linda of McLean, Roy K. Weakley and his wife, Debbie of Sperryville, Richard A. Weakley and his wife, Sharon of Luray, and Nancy W. Presgraves and her husband, Barry of Luray, and one sister, Peggy J. Sisk of Slate Mills.
