Marise Larrabee DeJarnette
Marise Larrabee DeJarnette, 88, of Culpeper died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born February 17, 1923 near Oblong, IL to the late V. Ray and Gladys Faught Larrabee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Spencer DeJarnette, her brother, William E. Larrabee, and granddaughter, Susan Chilton DeJarnette.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia L. Bledsoe and her husband, Jim, of Byhalia, MS; her aunt, Elizabeth Eubank, of Greenup, IL; and sister-in-law, Alice V. Larrabee of Mattoon, IL.
Also surviving are her six children, Nancy DeJarnette Frye and her husband, Carl, of St. George, VA; J. Spencer DeJarnette, Jr. and his wife, Mary Chilton, of Madison, VA; William E. DeJarnette and his wife, Barbara, of Culpeper; Elliott Hawes DeJarnette and his wife, Mary, of Culpeper; Margaret DeJarnette Baumgardner and her husband, Douglas, of Washington, VA; and David L. DeJarnette and his wife, Trudy, of Culpeper.
She also leaves 18 grandchildren, Coby Frye and his wife Karen; Meredith Frye Mullins and her husband Tony; Daniel Frye and his wife Jamie; Joshua Frye, Joe DeJarnette, John Daniel DeJarnette, Dean DeJarnette, Richard DeJarnette, Eli DeJarnette, Jamie DeJarnette, Elizabeth DeJarnette, Caroline Baumgardner Walker and her husband Tom; Alex Baumgardner, Spencer Baumgardner, Julia Baumgardner, Andrew DeJarnette, Katie DeJarnette, Chistopher DeJarnette, and 10 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Connor, Liam, Mimi, Clare, Boice, Ella, Ian, Cole, and Thomas.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
During WW11, she met Joseph DeJarnette of Orange, VA, who was stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. They married in Orange, VA in 1945 and moved to Culpeper shortly thereafter. They made their home in Culpeper for over 60 years.
She was a faithful and devout member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and was active with the Episcopal Church Women, lending a helping hand when needed. She served as a volunteer for over 20 years to the Culpeper Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank in Culpeper for 24 years serving as Assistant Human Resource Director, retiring in 1988. Prior to this, she worked for Tuel Jewelers and as a journalist for Culpeper Star Exponent and Charlottesville Daily Progress.
She was a graduate of Willow Hill High School in Illinois and Evansville Business College in Evansville, Indiana.
She was a devoted and loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Nothing gave her more pleasure than being with her family. She loved reading and was a strong supporter of the Culpeper County Library. She also enjoyed collecting and restoring dolls. She valued education and attended every graduation of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her loving kindness to her family, neighbors, workplace, and community.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 115 N. East St., Culpeper, VA with the Rev. Michael Gray officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Parish hall.
The family will have the interment at a later time at the Culpeper National Cemetery.
