Marion Rosser Homza's Obituary
Marion Rosser Homza, 87, of Alexandria, VA died July 24, 2009 at Capital Hospice, Falls Church, VA. She was born April 6, 1922 in Criglersville, VA and was the daughter of the late Wilmer Rosser and the late Lillie Dolan Rosser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vasel Homza. She is survived by two children, Stephen Homza and his wife, Cindy, of Charlotte, NC, and Jean Homza of Washington, D.C. Survivors include two grandchildren, Kelli Homza, USN, of Virginia Beach, VA and Max Homza of Norfolk, VA; and one great grandchild, Jonathan Hamilton of Virginia Beach, VA.
She attended Criglersville grade and high school graduating with honors in 1939. She was class Salutatorian and received The DAR Good Citizenship Award and the Balfour Key from Class Ring Company.
Marion wanted to become a nurse since the age of 6 years, and she pursued this career by enrolling in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree program at Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary, affiliated with Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA. She graduated in 1945 and worked at Stuart Circle, McGuire Veterans Hospital, Lebanon, PA Veterans Hospital, and, after marriage, she moved to Alexandria, VA where she worked at Alexandria Hospital for about 30 years, many as a night supervisor.
Music was always an important part of her life. She played the violin and sang in The College Glee Club and in church choirs wherever she lived, including Melborune, FL, Charlotte, NC, and Fredericksburg,VA in addition to Alexandria, VA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701, 1(800) 207-3530.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.
Interment will follow in Criglersville Cemetery.
