Marion Elizabeth Coates' Obituary
Marion Spicer Coates, 96, of Culpeper, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1929, in Rappahannock County to the late Marion Alfred Spicer and Ruby Jane Jenkins Spicer.
Marion was an avid reader; she loved to play cards, go out for dinner with family and friends, and attend church when she was able. It was always her prayer that all her loved ones shared her faith. Marion was a longtime member of New Salem Baptist Church in Griffinsburg, and retired from Safeway in Culpeper after 30 plus years of work. She lived a full life and loved the Lord above all. We are certain there was a joyous reunion in heaven as Marion walked down the streets of gold into the arms of her Jesus. She was lovingly greeted by the love of her life Charlie, her parents, family members, and friends.
She is survived by her son Charlie “Chuck” Coates, Jr. & Judy, and her daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Jones & Virgil all of Culpeper. In addition, Marion leaves behind her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Tommy Settle & Stephanie (Gavin, Colbie, & Hudson); Bobby Jo Jarvis (Brooklynn); Charlie “CR” Coates, III (Ellie, Louisa, & Annie); Chelsey Jones; Courtney Jones Weaver & Brian (Charlie); and Carley Jones Jack & Matt.
Marion was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie R. Coates, Sr. and all five of her younger siblings: Joyce Nalls, Hazel Pote, Tommy Spicer, Ruth Leach, and Carlton Spicer.
She will be missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
We would like to thank the staff at Spring Oak in Warrenton, especially Christine, Brianna, and Ashley of Trinity Hospice of Warrenton. We are also deeply grateful to the countless friends who supported Marion in her final months with visits, cards, food, love, and prayers.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 East Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA.
Pallbearers serving the family will be Charlie Coates, III, Brian Weaver, Tommy Settle, Matt Jack, Randy Nalls, Beau Spicer, Carty Spicer and Jeff Nalls. Honorary Pallbearers are Jameson Jarvis, Mike Alford, Bill Huff, Jr. and Dave Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to New Salem Baptist Church, 8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA or Slate Mills Baptist Church, 10 Church Lane, Sperryville, VA.
