Margaret Viola Caperton's Obituary
Margaret Viola Caperton-Miller, “Nanny,” passed away peacefully in her home on June 30, 2016 at the age of eighty. She was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and pastor.
Margaret was born on September 15, 1935 in Rockingham County, VA to George K. and Helen L. Rife. Her siblings were Ambrose, Miriam, Joe, Russell, Hazel, Halley, Ora, Hilda, George Junior, and Ethel. She married Fred Thomas Caperton Sr. on 14 August 1953, with whom she had two sons, Fred Thomas Jr. and George Gaston.
After the passing of her first husband, Margaret started the Culpeper Christian Singles Group because she had a desire to prevent others from experiencing the loneliness that she carried with the loss. She met and married Charles K. Miller on 19 October 2001, and they spent over fourteen years traveling the country until her decline in health would no longer allow.
Margaret was a dedicated homemaker and caregiver to many children over the years. Her home was open to anyone in a time of need. She is best known for her southern, homestyle cooking and generous hospitality. Often hosting large feasts at the holidays for as many friends and family as her home would hold. Everyone was welcome at Nanny’s house!!
Margaret is survived by her husband, Charles K. Miller; two sons, Fred Thomas Caperton Jr. (Patrece) and George Gaston Caperton (Helen); five grandchildren, Melissa Yates (John), Freddy Caperton (Lauren), Rebekah James (Tony), Renee McNemar (Jacob), and Sarah Risner (Jay); twelve great grandchildren, Parker, Grayson, Branson, Cheyenne, Tyler, Wyatt, Avery, Madi, Alyssa, Ryan, Aaron and Chase.
