Manuela Huerta's Obituary
Manuela Huerta passed away at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA, on February 4, 2023. She was born in Minas Camaguey, Cuba on October 20, 1931.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews living here in the states and in Cuba. Manuela was preceded in death by her parents, Ramiro Huerta and Evangelina Gallo, and ten siblings.
Manuela was a licensed beautician in Cuba. She set up a beauty salon in the laundry room, where she lived in MD, after arriving in the United States in 1968. With that income, she was able to send money back to her family aiding them financially.
Then, she worked on becoming a U.S. citizen. She learned the English language, studied hard, and was so proud when she passed the test. Her career began at GEICO, where she thrived. She worked her way up from clerk to supervisor. Manuela worked for them for 10 years and then went to work for MCI Telecommunications. Once again thriving in all positions she held. She worked for them 15 years before retiring and moving to Florida. She lived in Florida for 26 years with her best friend Carolynn Southern. They remained friends until she passed away. They were like sisters from different mothers.
Manuela had many Godchildren. All of them were treated as if they were her own. Her joy in life was helping others. In that same spirit, she volunteered with Catholic Charities and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church to help the needy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Dementia Society of America, at dementiasociety.org/donate
