Makayla "Kaley" Arielle Backe's Obituary
Makayla “Kaley” Arielle Backe, 23, of Winchester, VA died Monday, April 12, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center. She was born September 28, 1997 in Culpeper to John and April Backe.
Kaley was an artistic, kind, gentle, loving soul that was loved by so many. She showed strength in her sobriety, but ultimately lost her battle with addiction. Kaley was vocal in her experiences and trials and was always willing to share any truths about recovery that she had learned. She had a witty and quick sense of humor that she inherited without doubt from her Dad. Kaley’s strength and strong-willed attitude was passed down from her Mom.
She is survived by her parents, John and April Backe, one sister, Allison “Ally” Backe, paternal grandmother, Gertie Backe, maternal grandmother, Margaret Ramey, and her very best friend and cousin, Raegan Clatterbaugh. Kaley is also survived by her fiancé, Cody Phillips, her puppy, Cooper, and a host of additional family members.
Kaley is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Claude F. Backe, Jr., her maternal grandfathers, Richard E. Hitt and Linden “Lin” Ramey, and her uncle, Jason Hitt.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA. Due to COVID-19 mandates, masks are required to enter the building.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeff Light officiating. The family would like to invite those unable to attend to join the service via livestream at
