Lynne Grandstaff's Obituary
Lynne S. Grandstaff, who had been a Potomac News reporter and then editorial page editor, died Sunday November 23 at Virginia Hospital Center. She succumbed to pulmonary, kidney, and heart failure. She was 61.
She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1968 and earned her master’s degree as a graduate assistant/English literature major at Ohio University in 1969. She worked on her Ph.D. at Ohio University as a graduate assistant until campus riots erupted in 1970, when she and her husband Herald moved to Manassas. She completed course work on her Ph.D. in English at the University of Maryland. She also earned graduate credits in public administration from George Mason University.
Lynne started working as a reporter at the Potomac News in the Manassas Bureau with her husband in 1972. She worked at the Potomac News from 1972-76 and 1978-85. She covered the Prince William County School Board, became editorial page editor, and served as managing editor for a year. She won four Virginia Press Association awards for editorial writing. In 1977-78, she served as information officer at the Woodbridge campus of the Northern Virginia Community College. She taught English at Osbourn Park High School in 1985-86 before working at the Washington Business Journal and Washington Technology.
Lynne joined the CH2M-HILL engineering firm staff in 1988 as a technical specifications writer/editor and served in that capacity until 2000.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, McLean.
In addition to her husband of 40 years, Lynne is survived by their son George of Manassas; one brother, Glenn B. Harvey and his wife Elsie of Manassas; two nieces, Adriana and Cassandra Harvey; and one cousin Marianne Roeder and husband James of Jenkintown, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday December 1 at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Home in Manassas, with burial in Bright View Cemetery, Warrenton. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday November 30 at the Funeral Home.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributed to the American Lung Association, the Kidney Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
