Shiphra And Steven Johnson
Shiphra, my wife, and I are very sorry to recently learn of Luellyn's passing. Having only briefly meet Luellyn through a mutual friend, my wife and I were struck with her thoughtless generosity and spirit. We were talking at a holiday party and quickly realized a series of events and twists of fate in that our paths had crossed several times without knowing. Both having been in Athens George at the same time while I attended the Navy Supply Corps School after commissioning, before serving as Assistant Supply Officer aboard the USS Thomas S. Gates CG-51 where I additionally served as Food Service Officer in charge of the Wardroom. We talked about the ship and her association and the sadness I was feeling seeing the Gates in Philadelphia being dismantled for scrap metal. She said wait one minute and left. Coming back shortly with a box of wardroom china from the USS Thomas S. Gates and gave them to me. We wanted to let her friends and family know that we not only appreciate this gift, but will remember her generosity and spirit and her random act of kindness.
We are truly sorry for your loss.
Shiphra and Steven Johnson, (Former LCDR, SC, USN)
