Lucy Virginia Bawkey Shaw's Obituary
Lucy Virginia Bawkey Shaw, 97, of Mitchells, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at her residence. She was born April 20, 1911 in Rixeyville, VA to the late William Claude and Fannie Cobb Bawkey.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of First Century Baptist Church and Gourdvine Baptist Church. She was also a life member of the American Legion Post #330 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed the Charleston Dance, driving her Chevy truck, gardening her flowers and traveling. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved her extended family.
She is survived by her nine children, Cluster Jenkins and his wife, Ada, Clara Settle, Pamela Cook, Irma Jean Finchum and her husband, Joe, Marian Buchannan and her husband, Charles, Margaret Ramey and her husband, Linden, James Shaw and his wife, Jean, Brenda Wilson and Roger Shaw.
Additional survivors include one brother, James Bawkey and his wife, Shirley, one sister, Orelia Berry, 34 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Shaw.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Lee Brown and Pastor Rick Love officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gary Hitt, Ricky Shaw, Kenny Settle, Kevin Shaw, William Settle, Jr. and Steve Settle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to First Century Baptist Church, 19191 Batna Rd., Culpeper, VA 22701 &/or Gourdvine Baptist Church, 7103 Eggbornsville Rd., Rixeyville, VA 22737.
