Lucinda M. Griffin's Obituary
Lucinda Mitchell Griffin died peacefully on the morning of Saturday May 23, 2015, at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Center in Culpeper, Virginia. Cindy was born on November 26,1919 in Chatham, Virginia to the late Floyd Hurt Mitchell and Mary Lou Meador Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her husband John Henry Griffin. She was also preceded in death by a sister Juanita Mitchell Anderson and brothers Robert, Sandford, and John Roy Mitchell.
Cindy came to Culpeper to teach school after attending Radford College and became very active in the community she loved. She was instrumental in helping bring Culpeper Memorial Hospital to the community through her volunteer work which she enjoyed with the garden club. Cindy was an avid golfer having won the Virginia State Women's Senior Championship in 1976 and 1977. Only fourteen women golfers have had the honor to win this championship more than once since the tournament's inception in 1958. Cindy was a charter member of the Culpeper Country Club where she was the club and county golf champion for many years.
Cindy is survived by her son John Thomas Griffin and his wife Judy of Culpeper, her daughter Jeanne Griffin Grimes and her husband Jimmy of Culpeper. Known as MeeMaw to her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by grandson John Thomas Wyatt Griffin and his wife Kristin of Ashburn, Virginia and great grandchildren Estelle and Wyatt Griffin. She is also survived by her granddaughter , Melanie Grimes McDaniel and her husband Paul of Powhatan, Virginia and great-grandson, Lawson Cooper McDaniel.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday May 29,2015 at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful care givers at Culpeper Baptist Home for the loving care they gave ''Miss Lucinda'' over the years of her residence there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Benevolent Fund, PO Box 191 Culpeper, Virginia 22701.
