Louise Peacher Curtis' Obituary
The youngest of 5 children, Louise was born on August 16, 1924, to Thomas and Villa Peacher in Madison County, Virginia. She passed peacefully from this life into the eternal joy of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 24, 2024. A woman of enduring faith, she was loved and admired by family and friends for her sweet spirit and kind disposition.
Her father, Thomas, passed away when Louise was an infant. Raised by a single mom, Villa, during the Great Depression, her early years were difficult, but she never complained about those days. Hard times helped to shape her character as a humble, hard-working, compassionate, encouraging, and faithful friend. While she did not have the opportunity to complete high school, she was an outstanding speller, a gifted writer, and excelled in practical math.
Louise accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and remained a committed believer as a member of the Culpeper Church of Christ. Christian principles guided her throughout her life and she “Loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength and her neighbor as herself.” She overcame serious illnesses and obstacles in her life that seemed insurmountable. She never failed to give credit to the Lord for all of this in her testimony to others.
Louise married William A. (Bill) Curtis, deceased, in 1950 and they were married for 55 years. While she was a talented and accomplished employee at a local factory, she became a full-time wife and mother to two children, William Michael “Mike” Curtis (Rhonda) and Debra Lynn “Debbie” Peters (Rocky). A small, 18-acre farm, produced almost everything the family ate.
Louise managed the household with skill and efficiency, canning and freezing the produce from the family gardens. She was recognized as “Mother of the Year” in the 1970’s by a local radio station. Her children believe she deserved that designation every year for her lifetime of nurturing, guidance, encouragement, support and unconditional love!
In addition to her children, Louise is survived by four grandchildren, Brandon Curtis (Tammy, and her son, Evan Scott), Michael Curtis, Jr. (Niki), Amy Curtis Cooley (Austin), and Austin Peters (Taylor); as well as two great-grandchildren, Trey Curtis and Avery Cooley. Louise’s sister-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Mills of Richmond, also deserves mention. They shared so many good times and laughs over the years. We never tired of hearing their stories.
Thanks and appreciation for Louise’s care in her later years go to the loving and caring staff members of the Village at Gordon House, English Meadows, Lavender Hills Campus in Orange, and Hospice of the Piedmont. Your kindness and support will not be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperrvyille Pike, Culpeper, VA with Minister Mike Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
