Louis Alexander Ennis Jr.'s Obituary
Louis A. Ennis, Jr., passed away on January 11, 2023. Louis was born in Baltimore, MD, to Bessye and Louis A. Ennis, Sr., (both deceased), and was brother to Bettye Viens and William Ennis (both deceased). He was married to Madeline Ennis for 70 years wonderful years, until Madeline’s death in October 2019. He is survived by his and Madeline’s seven children—Stephen Ennis, Mark Ennis, Beth Ennis, Christie Botte, Elise Ennis, Brian Ennis, and Claire Trageser; nine grandchildren—Heather Ennis, Kevin Ennis, Abby Botte, Ian Evancho, Jared Evancho, Julia Ennis, Anthony Ennis, Sean Trageser, and Paige Trageser; and six great grandchildren—Sydney Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Gabriel Anderson, Joshua McKenley, Lauren Ennis, and Matthew Ennis.
During World War II, Louis entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and graduated after approximately a year of studies and dodging enemy submarines on a merchant ship. He subsequently served in the U.S. Navy for approximately two years, where he was a Lieutenant, JG. After being inactivated by the Navy, Louis earned a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Maryland. He then held various engineering positions with private and public entities, culminating with his long tenure as the construction engineer for the Baltimore County Community Colleges.
Louis and Madeline lived for many years in the Baltimore, MD, area. They retired to Ft. Myers, FL, where they spent many happy years enjoying the warm climate and playing golf and bridge. For over 20 years, summers were spent in Lake of the Woods, VA. Louis was always a do-it-yourselfer, tackling many projects for their homes, as well as for their children’s homes.
About 10 years ago, Louis and Madeline returned north to Fredericksburg, VA, to be nearer their children. They took up residence at Harmony (formerly Crossings) at Falls Run, where Louis resided until his death.
