Lois Darling Buckley's Obituary
Lois Darling Buckley, born Lois Elizabeth Pinkerton died at the age of 91, on the evening of December 16th at home with her family in Culpeper VA. Lois was a 50 year resident of the District of Columbia, known professionally as Lois Darling.
Lois was born on September 7th 1926 to late Lloyd and Orpha Pinkerton in Freedom PA and spent her early years in nearby Beaver Falls PA where she began her musical career teaching the local children to play piano. Her passion for music began when she was 4 and would continue throughout her life and fuel the many accomplishments and accolades she received during her long life.
Lois was a graduate of the Peabody Music Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD before she moved to Washington DC in 1964 to continue her lifelong career as a vocal teacher. Aside from the hundreds of students she coached in her private practice, Over the years she was a music teacher and vocal instructor at several local schools including Madeira, Foxcroft and American University. She sang with multiple choirs, including All Souls Unitarian church and Washington Hebrew Congregation
Lois is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Steinberg; two siblings, James Pinkerton and his wife, Nancy of Melbourne, FL and Mary Nunamaker of Upper Sandusky, OH; two grandchildren, Daniel Steinberg and Jenifer Grimsley and her husband, Ryan; and two great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Grayson Grimsley.
Lois will be interred in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetary alongside her husband of 21 years, Frank Buckley.
