Liz Audet Green's Obituary
Elizabeth (Liz) Audet Green, 45, of Fredericksburg, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
Liz was born on July 11, 1965 in Washington, D.C. She grew up in McLean, Virginia where she attended St. Luke’s Catholic School until high school where she attended Langley High in McLean, VA. Liz initially was interested in chemistry when she attended Virginia Tech, but became more interested in people and their lives and switched her major to journalism. While covering a story on schools and troubled youth, she became interested in the work of school social workers. Liz went back to school, first at George Mason University in Fairfax and then at Virginia Commonwealth University where she took her Masters in Social Work. In her professional life she worked in psychiatric group homes, as an in home counselor for the Rappahannock Community Service Board, as a social worker at the juvenile detention center, and her last 11 years were spent at the Regional Alternative School in Fredericksburg as the school social worker.
When not working, Liz was busy raising her daughter, Caitlin Green, her three step sons, Michael, Ryan, and Sean Green, and helping her husband, Jim take care of his father when he came to live with the family due to his declining health. Liz liked all things family; meals together, camping, boating, vacationing at the Outer Banks, and raising Golden Retriever puppies. She was involved in her community not only professionally, but as a volunteer Brownie Scout leader at Ferry Farm Elementary. She also became interested in spirituality issues, participating in several local spiritual groups. Her most personal spiritual moments prepared her for facing her cancer and its terminal diagnosis. Liz came to know that life, even in death, offers only love and peace.
Liz is survived by her mother, Frances Audet (formerly Hogue) of McLean, Virginia; her husband, Jim Green of Fredericksburg; her daughter, Caitlin and her three step sons, Michael, Ryan, and Sean, all of Fredericksburg; her sister, Andree Duvarney of McLean; her brothers, Michael and Mark Audet of Richmond, Virginia, and her twin sister, Adrienne Miner of Denver, Colorado. She also has many surviving brothers, sister’s-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alphonse Audet of McLean, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg with a reception to follow.
