Lester William Deal's Obituary
Lester William Deal, 88, of Sperryville died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born March 7, 1928 in Peola Mills, VA to the late George Daniel and Bertha Peyton Deal.
Mr. Deal was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp and served in Hiroshima, Japan after it was bombed during World War II in August 1945. He was a member of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church. He was a farm manager for Piedmont Farms, a salesman for RUS Industries and a meat cutter at Vint Hill Farms Commissary. Mr. Deal was best known throughout the county and surrounding areas as the “Apple Man”, selling apples and peaches at the farmer’s market and at his fruit stand in Sperryville.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Jenkins Deal; seven children, Don Deal and his wife, Linda of Culpeper, Nancy Taylor and her husband, McKinley of Luray, Wayne Deal of Kernersville, NC, William Deal of Wolftown, Pamela Deal of Culpeper, Tony Deal of Culpeper, and Joyce Lindsey and her husband, Ray of Brightwood; four grandchildren, Michael Deal and his wife, Patricia, Bryan Deal and his wife, Julie, John Taylor, and Karen Stoneberger and her husband, Jeffrey; and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Deal; six brothers, Daniel, George, Harry, Andrew, Woodrow and Hugh Deal; and two sisters, Dolly Sisk and Lile Pierce.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Doug Farmer and Rev. Jon Heddleston officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Etlan Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joyce Lindsey, Pamela Deal, William Deal, Tony Deal, Michael Deal, Bryan Deal, John Taylor and Jeffrey Stoneberger. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Lindsey, Kenny Buracker, Charlie Jenkins, Al Baldonado, James Jenkins, Jesse Jenkins and Eddie Keener.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the “Joyce Lindsey Scholarship Fund”, c/o Suntrust Bank, 633 Meadowbrook Shopping Center, Culpeper, VA 22701 &/or the charity of your choice.
