Leonard Lindsey Hair's Obituary
Leonard L. Hair, 90, of Fredericksburg passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Leonard was born in Danville, Va., on August 29, 1933. He grew up in Scotland County, NC, and joined the United States Air Force upon graduation from high school. Leonard was stationed overseas in France and Germany but ended up back in Virginia after serving 14 proud years in the Air Force.
As a civilian, Leonard worked for the federal government at the Pentagon, where he met his wife, Sara. He worked in the Air Force Security Clearance office as a Division Chief.
After he and his wife retired, they moved from Falls Church to Fredericksburg, where they resided until his passing. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling across the country, visiting every state in the contiguous US. He also enjoyed bowling, playing Pinnacle, leaving big tips for unsuspecting strangers, and the Washington Redskins.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Sara A. Hair; his daughters, Viicky L. Silor (Bill) and Melodie A. Burkman (Leroy); his sister, Peggy Wallace; five grandchildren, Kristi, Kelli, Brandie, Makayla, and April; and seven great-grandchildren, Cole, Braxton, Alva, Ori, Luke, Kade and Sophia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Hair and Virginia B. Wyatt; his brother, Neal Hair; sister, Nerona Fore and a grandson, Ethan Gonzalez.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Fredericksburg Food Bank, fredfood.org/givetoday; or the Alzheimer’s Association, act.alz.org/donate.
