Skip, a four year veteran with the United States Air Force and retired U.S. Capitol police officer of 23 years was a patriot to God, family, and country.
Skip was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Vivien, on June 16, 1962. Out of this union, two sons were born, Dan and Donny. He was most proud of his role as a devoted husband and father.
He was a faithful member of the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church for more than 25 years, an avid sports fan and loved coaching football and baseball which included many championship seasons. His hobbies were fishing, photography, woodworking and reading about military history.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Sr. and Edna Shiner; brothers-in-law, Bill and Bob; and nieces, Beverly and Becky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vivien; sons, Dan and wife, Malinda of Woodford, VA, and Donny of Haymarket, VA; sister, Barbara of Fredericksburg, VA; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces he called ‘his girls’.
Don’t cry for me. I’m where I belong.
I want you to be happy and try to stay strong.
Don’t cry for me. It was just my time.
But I will see you someday on the other side.
Don’t cry for me. I am not alone.
The angels are with me to welcome me home.
Don’t cry for me, for I have no fear.
All my pain is gone, and Jesus took my tears.
Don’t cry for me.
