Leo Joseph Scolforo, III's Obituary
Leo Joseph Soolforo, III
Leo Joseph Scolforo III, of Scottsville, Va., died suddenly March 18 after collapsing during a pickup basketball game, one of his favorite pursuits. He was born Jan. 29, 1957, in Camp Lejeune, N.C., and spent much of his childhood in Arlington, Va. He graduated from Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School in Arlington.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he was a master electrician by trade and had worked most recently for Design Electric Inc. in Charlottesville, Va.
He had a sweet temperament and an Irishman's sense of humor. He made friends easily and was always up for a good time or a game of hoops.
He read the newspaper every day, was a killer Scrabble player and a pool shark, enjoyed crossword puzzles and made up for a lack of natural singing talent with enthusiasm for karaoke. The Washington Redskins had no more devoted or knowledgeable fan.
He is survived by his longtime fiancee, Judy Richards of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Jennifer Scolforo of Bealeton, Va., and her two children, Lexi and Joey; and a son, Tony Scolforo of Bealeton. He also is survived by his father, Leo J. Scolforo Jr., and his wife Jan, of The Plains, Va. His mother, Susan Carroll Wickham Scolforo, died in 1967.
Other survivors include brothers Mark Scolforo of Lemoyne, Pa., Matthew Scolforo of Saint Augustine, Fla., and Jeremy Scolforo of Harrisonburg, Va.; sisters Angela Scolforo of Scottsville, and Meghan Scolforo Mills of Stephens City, Va.; stepbrothers Kenny Jemielity of Manassas, Va., Geoffrey Moody of Glen Mills, Pa., and Kevin Moody of Norfolk, Va.; and stepsisters Kathleen Jemielity of Manassas Park, Va., and Annie Dorcsis of The Plains.
His extended family includes numerous relatives in and around Lee, Mass., where his parents were born and raised.
Viewing is 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Found and Son Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Va. Graveside service and interment is 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, at Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 U.S. Ave., Culpeper.
