Leo T. Caruthers III's Obituary
Leo Thomas Caruthers, III, 65 of Fredericksburg, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Leo was born on 16 May 1945 at NOB Hospital, Norfolk Virginia. He attended school in Arlington, VA and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served as a Missile Control Technician on several ships including; USS Wainright during the Vietnam conflict, USS America and USS John F. Kennedy. He retired after 20 years of service and later joined Raytheon Corp. as an Electrical Engineer.
Leo is survived by his wife Candace Branch Barnes whom he married on 3 April 1965; his mother, Laurel (Gardner) Caruthers of Spooner, Wisconsin; two sons, Thomas Gardner Caruthers and Arthur Sheldon Caruthers and his daughter, Christine Rosalind Caruthers, all of Fredericksburg.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Bradley (Stone) (Caruthers) Young and Leo Thomas Caruthers, Sr. of Alabama, his father, Leo Thomas Caruthers, Jr. of Raleigh, NC.; maternal grandparents, W. Joseph Gardner and Velna Clark Gardner and step-grandmother Dorothy (Arsenault) Gardner of Spooner, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels – Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place in Wisconsin at a later date.
