Lawrence Schlosser's Obituary
Lawrence Schlosser, 82, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away on April 4th, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Larry was born to Allen and Ruth Schlosser, in Zion, Illinois on May 21st, 1940. As a youngster he loved to play baseball and football and would later coach his son and daughters’ tee-ball team along with his son’s many baseball and football teams. He rooted for the Green Bay Packers and later the Washington Commanders along with being a die-hard New York Yankees fan.
He attended Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin before he joined the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed in Okinawa with some trips to Japan and Korea. After leaving the Marine Corps, he married Loretta Girard on October 18th, 1969, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Larry then graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s in political science and a minor in history. He then graduated from George Washington University in Washington, DC with a Master’s degree.
After graduating, Larry and Loretta moved around due to work from Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey, and Indiana and then finally settled in Northern Virginia where they would make their home until his passing. Larry spent his career as a contracting officer for the federal government. He enjoyed science fiction as well as reading, writing, and watching sports.
While Larry held many titles in life, his greatest joy was spending time with his beautiful wife, Loretta, two adult children, Damon and Lea, and his granddaughter, Lillie. Larry was always there for his family, whether it was cheering them on at a sporting event, helping with homework, preparing them for job interviews, or just giving them some of his famous sage wisdom and humor.
In addition, it was important to Larry to help others in need, and he did so through many charities. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, loved music, drinking his coffee, and playing with his dogs. From his first dog, Butch, to his last, Molly, and all in between, he could not pass by a dog without saying hello.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 and a half years, Loretta Schlosser; his son, Damon Schlosser; his daughter, Lea Schlosser; granddaughter, Liliana Cole-Schlosser; his sister, Linda Gorin (Steven); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Allen; mother, Ruth; brothers, James and Michael; and sister, Norma Jean.
He is profoundly missed by his family and friends and most especially his dog, Molly.
