Lawrence Edgar Brown's Obituary
Lawrence Edgar Brown passed away on Tuesday October 15, 2024 at his home in Fredericksburg, VA. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer just prior to Labor Day. After 40 days in the hospital, including two surgeries, he lived his final few days at home with his family, friends, and dogs. He was 57.
Larry was born in Alexandria, VA on May 18, 1967 to George and Mary Brown. He graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg in 1986, and immediately enlisted in the US Navy, where he proudly served six years. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm.
After his honorable discharge he returned to Fredericksburg where he met his future husband in summer 1993. He and Duane Wooldridge (Scooter) were wed in Washington, DC, in April 2010 after the overdue recognition of marriage equality.
At the time of his passing, Larry and Scooter had marked 31 years as partners in life. They resided most of their life together in Washington, DC, and Lost River, WV.
Larry is survived by his husband, Scooter; his sisters, Kelli White and Holly Chandler and their husbands; nieces and nephews for whom he was a wonderful guncle; and his beloved dogs, Sydney and Kylie.
Larry was a world traveler; drinker of great beers; enjoyer of music and art of all kinds; advocate and mentor; and steadfast friend. Larry was retired from the field of multifamily property management and was enjoying life to its fullest.
He will be remembered at a ceremony in downtown Fredericksburg on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at The Old Silk Mill at 1707 Princess Anne Street. There will be a viewing and social hour from 10:30 to 11:30, with a funeral service from 11:30 to 12:30. Burial with military honors will be at Quantico National Cemetery on the same day at 2:00.
