Laureen Ann (Heglund) Scarlett's Obituary
Laureen Ann (Heglund) Scarlett, 56, was born at Trinity Hospital in Ashland, Wisconsin, on April 13, 1969, to her parents, Jack & Sylvia Heglund.
Laureen attended kindergarten at the Ondossagon School before moving with her family to Mellen. She attended school there, graduating in 1987. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from UW Stout in 1991.
She began her Interior Design career in Green Bay—where she became even more obsessed with the Green Bay Packers—before transferring to San Diego, California. Laureen enjoyed her work in interior design. That enjoyment was certainly bolstered by her ability to extend work trips into personal trips. Some of her favorites were her time in Japan, Alaska & Hawaii. Anyone who knew her at the time most likely heard about her anxiety over the fate of the piece of pottery she purchased in Hawaii! She was also able to spend 6 weeks traveling in Australia, which included an amazing backpacking trip to Uluru and climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
While living in San Diego, she met her future husband, Brett. They were married at his friend Chad’s family cabin in the mountains outside Kremmling, Colorado, on October 5, 2002. They enjoyed a honeymoon traveling back to San Diego from Kremmling, highlighted by a visit to the Grand Canyon.
After moving across the country, Laureen and Brett started their family when their son, Ryker, was born in North Carolina in 2007. Nadia completed their family when she arrived in 2009. Family was extremely important to Laureen throughout her lifetime, and that only grew once Ryker & Nadia arrived. There was no greater pride and joy in her life than being their mom.
Laureen also shared her love of interior design and travel with her family as they took many trips to visit various Frank Lloyd Wright-designed buildings. They also enjoyed annual Thanksgiving trips to enjoy nature & each other in the cabin getaway they visited for many years.
She fought tirelessly and courageously against the cancer that attacked her body. Laureen left no stone unturned trying to heal and eradicate the disease from her body. She did this not with thoughts for herself but always with the singular goal to be there to raise the children she so dearly loved. We thank you for the many thoughts, prayers, and gifts on Laureen’s behalf over the past 12 years of dealing with this dreadful disease.
Laureen was called home to Jesus on Christmas Eve, her favorite holiday, which was about to transform into Christmas Day. She will be deeply missed by her husband Brett, son Ryker, daughter Nadia, sister Marcy, niece Kalyssa & her family, brother and sister-in-law Derek and Miranda, and family, special uncle & godfather Gordy, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Laureen was undoubtedly able to celebrate her most wonderful Christmas in heaven, reunited with Dad, Mom, Grandma Es, Grandma Frieda, Aunt Cindy, and so many other family members.
There will be a Celebration of Laureen’s Life in Fredericksburg, Virginia at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg. Her family will receive friends one hour prior. Services will also be held at Copper Falls State Park during the summer of 2026.
