Laura Lillian Wharton's Obituary
Laura Lillian Wharton, 84, of Culpeper died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at her residence. She was born March 12, 1927 in Rappahannock to the late William Frank and Sarah McFarland Wharton.
Mrs. Wharton was a very giving person who loved children and taking care of the elderly. She enjoyed flowers and gardening and worked for both Arrington and Culpeper Dry Cleaners for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris McManious of Oldtown, ID, two sons-in-law, Russell McManious of Ladysmith and Clarence Tharpe of Culpeper, one brother, Otis Wharton of Madison, grandchildren, Debbie Sluys and her husband, Bill of Bennett, CO, Stacey McManious and his wife, Dawn of Frederickburg, Rusty McManious and his wife, Sandi of Ladysmith, great grandchildren, Michael Pierce, Rachael Hanlon, Connor Hoster and Melissa Sweeney, and great-great-grandchildren, Ariana and Dominic Pierce.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Connor Thomas Wharton, one daughter, Shirley Tharpe, one brother, Johnny Wharton and one sister, Ollie Wharton.
A celebration of Mrs. Wharton’s life will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Culpeper V.F.W. Post 2524, 12210 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
