Larry Milton Welch's Obituary
Larry Milton Welch, 75, of Luray passed Thursday, May 4, 2017 at his residence. He was born July 31, 1941 in Washington, DC to the late Lawrence and Penny Carrico Welch.
Larry was raised by his mother, Penny Welch and his grandmother, Julia Carrico and was always surrounded by many cousins whom he remained close to throughout his life. He worked as an independent drywall finisher for many years and for the National Gallery of Art for 14 years. Larry was known for his incredible talent restoring old cars over the years, even a 39 Chevy he worked on with his 2 sons, Jack and Bobby. He proudly served in the US Navy. In 1974, Larry set a worlds record for the fastest rocket bike at East Bend Drag strip in North Carolina. The official speed was 201.62mph in 6.85secs, making him known as Rocket Welch. After many years on the race tracks he came back to his childhood faith and became a born again Christian.
He faithfully took all of his children to church whenever the doors were open. His wife and children will always remember the time spent reading his bible, while sipping on his Lipton hot tea. He’ll be remembered as a hardworking and loving, faithful Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin and friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Hayde Espelita Welch; six children, Darlene Bourque and her husband, John of Midland, VA, Bobby Hubble and his wife, Michell of Front Royal, VA, Jack Welch of Nokesville, VA, Penny Robinson and her husband, Robbie of Sumerduck, VA, Patricia Neal of Midland, VA, and Chelsea Welch of Luray, VA; 15 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Darryl Welch.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Massanova Pentecostal Church, 691 Aaron Mountain Rd., Castleton, VA with Rev. L.D. Savage and Rev. Brent Gabbard officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
