LaMonte Edison Hugh's Obituary
LaMonte Edison Hugh of Amissville, VA, passed away on September 12, 2022. LaMonte was born on December 30, 1946, the only child of George and Laura Hugh of Smithfield, PA. LaMonte was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Willard and Hazel Abraham; and brother-in-law, James Abraham.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan; his children, Wade and Debbie Hugh, Wesley and Kathleen Hugh, Wendy and Garry Ankrom, and Ward and Stephanie Hugh.
LaMonte was blessed with fourteen grandchildren: Justin, Chelsey, Cassandra, Samantha, Marissa, Zoe, Trinity, Garry Jr., Phoebe, Kyra, Allison, Lacey, Natalie, and Ward Jr. Additionally, he has several nieces and nephews, including his special nephew and hunting buddy, Tim Abraham.
LaMonte graduated from Fairchance-Georges High School in Fairchance, PA. He then attended California State College before joining the Army. He was a Green Beret earning a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star while serving in Vietnam.
After leaving the Army, LaMonte worked as an Area Manager for Montgomery Ward. He then went on to earn an Engineering Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was a Commissioning Agent for Building Mechanical Systems with Hallam Associates.
LaMonte was an avid hunter and private pilot. He was a longtime member of Nokesville United Methodist Church. LaMonte was very active in the church and served in several positions as well as a being a member of the choir and the Charlie Perryman Band.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Nokesville United Methodist Church, with the Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. The service will also be live streamed on the NUMC Facebook page.
