L. Dolores Aylor's Obituary
Leslie Dolores Aylor (Doe), age 91, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. She was born at home in Madison on December 8, 1934, to Rufus Aylor and Bessie Brown.
Doe lived a life marked by faith, service, and dedication to her community. She worked for many years at Culpeper National Bank through its many name changes over the years. She was a respected leader who served as president of the Business and Professional Women and held many offices throughout her years of involvement. She also served on the board of directors for the REC.
Doe had a deep love for history and community service. She helped establish the Culpeper History Museum and gave her time in many ways throughout the years. She was active in the Choral Society and even had opportunities to travel abroad through music. She also faithfully supported 4-H, helping in the homemakers building and serving as a judge.
Her faith in Christ was the foundation of her life. Doe taught Sunday school at Stevensburg Baptist Church and was a longtime member and treasurer of Mitchells Presbyterian Church until dementia began to affect her health two years ago. Even in the early stages of dementia, she never forgot who Jesus was and never lost her faith.
Doe was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an avid reader, gifted baker, candy maker, seamstress, and artist. She loved animals, flowers, and nature. She also worked for many years at Ebenezer Heights Greenhouse with Mason Hutcheson, where she enjoyed sharing her love of growing things.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, William Aylor, Corky Pettengill, and Robert E. Brown. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Brenda Brown and Magda Aylor; four nieces and nephews; six great-nieces and great-nephews; and ten great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Doe’s life was a testimony of perseverance, kindness, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to the Lord.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
