Kitty Yvonne Lewis' Obituary
Kitty Yvonne Lewis, 74, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Culpeper Hospital. She was born July 16, 1951, to the late Leon William Wood and Nina Carolyn Wood in Craven County, NC.
Mom grew up in North Carolina in the town of New Bern, a place she always held close to her heart. She proudly referred to herself as a “New Bern girl” and was a cheerleader for the New Bern High School Bears. During her youth, she spent much of her time at the Salvation Army, which helped shape her caring and giving nature. She was known for sharing whatever she had with others and never met a stranger; she loved talking with people and quickly made friends wherever she went.
Her faith was very important to her, and she was a devoted member of Edward Christian Church for over 50 years, where she loved visiting and spending time with others in the congregation. She was also very proud of her three uncles who served in World War II. After losing her mother, Nina, at a young age, she spent much of her time with her three loving aunts who helped raise and guide her.
Mom loved simple joys in life, including basket weaving and crafts, caring for her pets, and spending time with people. She cherished her Walmart family, where she worked for 18 years before retiring. She especially enjoyed working in the pet department, where she could combine her love of animals with helping customers. Above all else, she loved her family; they were her whole heart and greatest joy in life.
Kitty is survived by her daughter, Lisa Marie Lewis (Diana La Venuta) of Culpeper, VA,; their children, Madeine La Venuta and Landon La Venuta; her son Gil Lewis (Mignon Langley) of Chocowinity, NC; his children, Jenna Lewis, Lydia Lewis, and Madelyn Lewis, all of Greenville, NC; her step grandchildren, Mason Elks, Ashley Elks Rosario, and Miguel Rosario; her step great grandson, Conner Rosario; and a host of additional family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Kitty is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Elwood D. Lewis; and by her sibling, Pat Dale.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A visitation will be held at Paul Funeral Home, 900 John Small Ave, Washington, NC.
A funeral service will be held at Edward Christian Church, 23, Academy Street, Edward, NC, with Dr. Rev. David Clayton Linton, Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Warren Memorial Cemetery, Blounts Creek, NC.
A time of fellowship will follow the graveside service at the church fellowship hall.
