Kenneth Turner's Obituary
Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Edward Turner, U.S. Marine Corp Retired, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home on West Street. His family was with him at the time of death. Ken was born July 24, 1926 to Arthur and Sara Turner in College Park, Georgia and grew-up in Griffin, Georgia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ellen Moore Turner. He is survived by his three children: Kenneth E. Turner, Jr. and wife Mary of Midlothian, Virginia Ellen Soodie T. Musselman and husband Ron of Culpeper, Virginia, and A. R. Bobbie Turner and wife Phyllis of Culpeper, Virginia; grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie N. R. Musselman of Glen Allen, Virginia, Jason M. T. Musselman of Midlothian, Virginia, Jonathan M. R. Turner and wife Christina of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Rebecca S. Robertson and husband Wayne of Chantilly, Virginia; great-grandchildren Kiara J. A. Turner, Eric Geitgey and Kyle Geitgey.
Ken graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1949, followed by 24 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corp. Among his many military honors, Ken was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for service in Korea. After retiring from the Marine Corp in 1972, Ken and his wife, Ellen, moved to Culpeper where the couple first met at the Culpeper Bicentennial in 1949 and married a year later.
Ken served on the Culpeper Planning Commission and Library Board. He enjoyed analyzing stock market trends, gardening, coin collecting, reading, and going to Atlantic City with his friends. He loved buying Christmas gifts for his children and grandchildren and watching the hubbub as gifts were opened and wrapping paper flew.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery. Dr. Ted Fuson will conduct the service. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Found & Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Culpeper County Library, 271 Southgate Shopping Center, Culpeper, VA 22701.
