Kenneth Boyd Shankle's Obituary
Ken Shankle, son of Benjamin and Marion Shankle died October 28, 2014 in his sleep. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father and his sister Margaret Bletz of Ohio. He is survived by his son, Hans Shankle, daughter Breannah Shankle, their Mother Marybeth Shankle, step-daughter Billielee Ballard, step-son Nikki Rustic and his sister Rebecca Trease.
Ken was born at Mercy Hospital in Canton OH. He grew up in Mansfield OH, attended Mansfield High School and joined the Marine Corps. He served in the Corps from 1968 to 1974 in Viet Nam War. After leaving the service he attended Germanna Community College. (What did he study there?).
Ken was a man of many talents. He was a good father, a good provider and loved a good debate. During his life in Rappahannock County he was well known as a stone mason. He received an award from the Architectural Institute of America for his artistry. He built the stone pillars and sign seen at the entry to St. Peters Catholic Church in Washington Virginia. His work can be seen throughout the county. He also was a Certified Nursing Assistant and provided care for friends and family.
He led a rich prayer life as a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he belong to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and an adult sunday school teach. Ken also was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he served as a lector and choir member. In 1987 he started a jail ministry in Rappahannock County. He also had a healing ministry with Tom von Fange and John Heddleston.
The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 7 to 8 pm at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church, 3948 Sperryville Pike, Sperryville, VA.
A mass will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 1 pm at St. Peter Catholic Church, 12762 Lee Hwy, Washington, VA.
