Kennard Dale Johnson's Obituary
Kennard Dale "Kenny" Johnson, 63, passed away, with his friends and family at his side, on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital due to liver failure.
Kenny was born on Oct 9, 1950, in Buchanan to Dorothy and Benjamin Johnson. The family moved to this area when he was young. Kenny was a 1969 graduate of Stafford High School and remained a lifelong resident of the Fredericksburg area. He was a retired mechanic who ran several automotive businesses over the years. Kenny was known for his big heart and helped many friends over the years, especially with their car problems.
He was an avid sports fan, playing and coaching baseball and softball most of his life. He was competitive in everything he engaged in: raft races, bowling, pool, horseshoes, darts, cards and hunting. He was a loyal Yankees and Redskins fan.
Left to mourn his passing are his mother, Dorothy Johnson and Delma Bullock; his daughter, Christy and her husband, Steve Turner; his son, Kenny Jr. "Rusty" and his wife, Allison; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Ethan, Hannah and Kaitlyn Turner and Carter, Cole and Caden Johnson; two sisters, Joyce Cooper and Susan Bragg and her husband, Clark; five brothers and their wives, Randall and Cindy, Don and Linda, Steve and Darlene, Barry and Debbie, and Phil Johnson. Kenny is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and all of his friends and teammates over the years, including his lifelong best friend, John Jeter.
A celebration of Kenny's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Salem Fields Community Church, on Gordon Road.
All friends are invited to share memories. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, please send a gift in memory of Kenny to Mary Washington Hospice.
