Kemper Mills "Buddy" Fant's Obituary
Kemper M. Fant, 86, of Culpeper passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019. He was born March 25, 1932 in Brandy Station to the late Orin Allen Fant and Willie Kemper Mills Fant.
Kemper, known to all as “Buddy", co-founded Fants' Amoco with its first location in Brandy Station in 1958. Buddy and Helen married August 3, 1960. The Culpeper location opened a short time later and he ran that until he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church, an avid Civil War relic hunter, and you could often find him piddling in his workshop if he wasn’t enjoying the occasional round of golf. In the years approaching retirement he and his wife Helen enjoyed antiquing and opened several shops at various times from Culpeper to Ruckersville.
He is survived by three sons, Kemper Mills Fant, Jr, Timothy Scott Fant (Brenda), and William Terrell Fant (Stacie).
Additional survivors include grandchildren, Ashley Brooke Fant, Kemper Mills Fant, III, Katie Marie Fant, Sara Ellen Fant, Skylar Nicole Fant, Sydney Mills Fant, Camryn Alyssa Fant, Olivia Jane Fant, and Will Brill whom he thought of as a grandson; and one great granddaughter Hadlee Layne Armstrong.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mahanes Fant; and one brother, Orin Allen Fant, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 US Avenue, Culpeper, VA with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
