Katherine Elizabeth Horton's Obituary
Katherine Elizabeth Horton, 77, of Spotsylvania County passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Katherine will be best remembered as a fiercely independent woman, who loved the outdoors, and her family. She enjoyed hiking and hunting for artifacts like arrowheads. She loved to hike through the Virginia Mountains, enjoyed learning about the history of the local towns and communities, and of course spending time with her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Katherine leaves behind a son, Daniel Horton (Theresa) of Green County; two daughters, Patricia Irvin (Carl), of Spotsylvania and Pamela Theriault (Lawrence) of Alabama; five brothers, Charles Crabtree (Phyllis), Roy Crabtree (Ivy), all of Bristol, Joe Crabtree (Loretta) of Spotsylvania, Larry Crabtree of Stafford County, and Bill Crabtree (Lori) of Purcellville. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jonathan, Katherine, Nathan, Crista, and Olivia; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Jade, and Kaylee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Horton; her parents, Creed and Katherine Crabtree; and a brother Raymond Crabtree.
Katherine’s family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Keith Boyette officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Katherine’s family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in her name to the American Lung Association, 9735 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031.
