June Elizabeth Brooks' Obituary
June Elizabeth Brooks, 84, of Culpeper died Friday, April 8, 2011 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 21, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William Milton Pearce and Mary Boswell Pearce.
Mrs. Brooks was known as “The Quilting Lady” for her love of making quilts. She was president of the residents at the nursing home, worked for Aileen's Custom Sewing and retired from Continental Teves. Mrs. Brooks was a lifelong member of Gid Brown Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by seven children, Milton Monroe Kaufman and his wife, Mary “Butch”, of Tareytown, Maryland, Tommy Brooks and his wife, Pat, of Culpeper, Janet Burke and her husband, John, of Rixeyville, Billy Brooks and his wife, Mary, of Bealeton, Mary Leake and her husband, Woodie, of Culpeper, Ginny Brown and her husband, Ralph, of Culpeper and Esther Guimond and her husband, Frenchy, of Warrenton. Additional survivors include a daughter-in-law, Holly Brooks, of Madison, and a step-daughter, Ruby “Sis” Jackson of Muncie, Indiana. She is also survived by thirty-five grandchildren , sixty-four great-grandchildren and twenty great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Archie Thomas Brooks, Sr., two children, Johnny and Charles Brooks, a son-in-law whom she loved dearly, Jimmie D. Settle, Sr., three sisters, Mildred Carlton, Ida Mae Koeig and Virginia Ann Meakins, two brothers, William Monroe and Charles Milton Pearle, and a step-son, William Archie “Buck” Brooks.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Found and Sons Chapel with Rev. John Burke officiating.
Interment will follow at Mount Holly Cemetery in Remington.
