Julian Wayne Moody's Obituary
Julian Wayne Moody, 73, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away on July 25, 2026. He was born on April 28, 1953 in Greenbriar County, West Virginia.
For more than 20 years, Julian proudly owned and operated the Shell Station and Sports Shop on Sudley Road in Manassas, Virginia. His business became much more than a place to fuel up or shop—it was a gathering place where customers became lifelong friends and enjoyed all his sports memorabilia. Through his welcoming smile, genuine conversations, and unwavering work ethic, he became a familiar and respected face in the Manassas community.
Following his years as a business owner, he began a second career as an automobile salesman at Dudley Martin Chevrolet, now Toyota, where he faithfully served customers for another 20 years. He built lasting relationships through his honesty, integrity, and commitment to helping others, earning the trust and admiration of both coworkers and customers alike.
Sports were one of Julian’s greatest passions. Whether he was coaching youth basketball and other community sports, umpiring local ball games, or cheering from the sidelines, he found great joy in encouraging athletes and giving back to the community. His influence reached countless young people whose lives were enriched by his patience, leadership, and love of the game.
A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he rarely missed an opportunity to watch a game and proudly supported his favorite team through every season. He also enjoyed bowling, a pastime that forever changed his life when he met the love of his life while participating in a bowling league. Their chance meeting blossomed into a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories together.
Above all else, He treasured his family. He will be remembered for his generous heart, friendly spirit, quick smile, and the countless lives he touched through his work, volunteerism, coaching, and friendships. His legacy of compassion, sportsmanship, and dedication to others will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
Julian is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Catherine Moody; children, Krystal Moody, April Beaver (Douglas) and Joseph Moody (Megan); grandchildren, Conner McCoullum, Alexis McCollum, Jimmie McCollum, Rylan Moody and Jacob Moody; his 90 year old, mother, Shirley Jean Burns Butt; siblings, Jimmy Flick (Tracy) and Pam Lorenson and one step-sister, Shirley Linaweaver (Dickie).
He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Moody; his granddaughter, Samantha Moody, his father, Julian Lee Moody and step-father, Bill Butt.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved wife, family, friends, former customers, teammates, players, and the many people whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, 19343 Carpenters Branch Road, Brandy Station, VA 22714 with Pastor Bruce Fincham officiating.
