Judith B. Maxfield's Obituary
Judith B. Maxfield, 90, of Culpeper passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at The Culpeper. She was born on December 25, 1934 to the late John Seabury Chapman Boswell and Martha Virginia Baggett Boswell in Alexandria, VA.
Judith held a bachelor’s degree in music from American University. She was an organist and choir director of many churches from 1955-1997 and again from March 2017 to November 2017. Judith became an honorary life member of the American Guild of Organist. She also was a guest director of the Madison Choral Society for several seasons. Judith taught music for many elementary schools in Amman, Jordan; Carthage, NY; and Woodbridge, VA. She also was a part of the music and creative movement program at St. Matthew’s Lutheran in Woodbridge, VA.
Judith was married for 56 years to her beloved David and traveled extensively during and after his 20-year U.S. Army career. They lived in Germany and Jordan, as well as numerous places across the country before retiring in Virginia. They always enjoyed traveling together.
Judith was always welcoming and supportive of family and friends and had a way of making a special connection with everyone she met.
Judith is survived by her children, John David Maxfield (Sandy), Martha Elizabeth Maxfield Turner, George Glenn Maxfield II (Laura), and James Wesley Maxfield (Kathy); grandchildren, Coryell Jade Perez, Sarah Elizabeth Turner, Laura Elyse Simpkins, Ian Alexander Maxfield, Michael James Turner, George Glenn Maxfield III, Daniel Scott Maxfield, Caitlin Alyssa Johnson, Victoria Rose Maxfield, Andrew James Maxfield, and Wesley Aiden Maxfield; Anna Caroline Maxfield, nine great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Judith is preceded in death by her husband, David Wesley Maxfield; brother, John S.C. Boswell; and son-in-law, Rick Turner.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 115 N. East Street, Culpeper, VA 22701.
Pallbearers serving the family will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Judith’s name to St. Stephens Episcopal Church with “organ maintenance in memory of Judith Maxfield” in the note section or in the memo section of donating by check at 115 N. East Street, Culpeper, VA 22701.
