Judith Elaine Green's Obituary
Judith “Judy” Elaine Green, 61, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023 in Richmond, VA, surrounded by her family. She was born May 17, 1961 in Warrenton, VA to Harold Ryland Green, Sr. and Julia Beverly Green. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Ryland Green, Jr.
Judy is survived by her long-time love, and partner, John W Campbell, Jr; children, Ashley P. Pfeiffer and Whittney E. Spivey of Fairfax, VA; the light of her life, granddaughter, Clover V. Ruth, also of Fairfax, VA; a brother, James Michael Green of Ft Lauderdale, FL; a sister, Patty Herndon of Culpeper, VA; and two nieces and their children.
She was employed by E-Systems, Inc (later Raytheon Corp) as a software engineer/system programmer, working on a national-level program in the Washington, DC area. Expanding her skill base, Judy was selected for multiple systems engineering and integration positions supporting a variety of national-level programs at multiple government facilities. As she gained renown for her expertise and systems knowledge, Judy was regularly a “by-name” expert the government requested to transition systems from development to an operational state. She regularly planned, coordinated, and executed those activities for systems procured on behalf of the Australian, British, Canadian, and US governments. She retired from Raytheon Corp in 2016.
Being small of frame, Judy started sewing at an early age, as taught by her mother, to make clothes that fit her. She continued that craft/hobby for the reminder of her life and was able to pass her knowledge to Ashley and Whittney. As a person who was constantly engaged in some activity, and being somewhat cold natured, she had a passion for crocheting and created countless beautiful items for herself, family, and friends.
A true animal lover over her life, Judy always made sure the birds and squirrels had year-round food. Spring signaled the return of her beloved hummingbirds and butterflies - she was truly a kindred spirit with them.
She loved flowers and took great pains to surround the house with Daffodils and Iris among others, many originally from her grandmother’s yard along with 2 Cherry trees planted in the backyard from her grandfather’s orchard outside of Schuyler.
And then there was Clover! From the day of her birth in Philadelphia, Clover stole Judy’s heart and as her only grandchild, a special bond was created that would only grow stronger as the years passed. No greater joy did Judy have than to spend time with Clover and support her school and extracurricular activities. Judy facilitated multiple excursions for Clover (and friends) both in the local Washington, DC area and overnight out of state.
We have lost a truly extraordinary woman – one who was strong-willed, fiercely determined, self-sufficient, extremely bright, and devoted to her family. Her ever-present energy and zest for life remind us how fortunate we are to have been allowed to share time with her.
