Joseph Lee Hudson's Obituary
Joseph Lee Hudson, age 94, died on Saturday June 30, 2007 after a long illness. He was born in 1912, near the village of Slate Mills in Culpeper County, Va.
In 1918, the family moved to Culpeper, where his father was a merchant for many years. Joseph Hudson graduated from Culpeper High School in 1929 and from Hampden-Sydney College in 1933. Prior to being called to military service, he was employed by the Washington, DC government as a chemist with responsibility for continual monitoring of the waters of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers for pollution problems. He served in the Army Air Force as a meteorologist in the European Theater of Operations. After the war, he settled in Arlington County, and joined the National Weather Service, specializing in aviation and oceanic forecasting until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the American Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union, the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Nora, his daughters Margo Katz and Cherie Finkelstein, and his sister-in-law Ruby Hudson of Culpeper Virginia.
There will be a graveside service this Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 PM at Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper Va., with Rev. Jimmy Durham officiating.
