Joseph Arthur Graves, Jr.
Joseph Arthur Graves, Jr., age 75; husband of Nancy Mae Graves, of Winchester, VA, for 51 years went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2014. He was born December 31, 1938, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Joseph Arthur Graves, Sr. and Frances Wathen Graves.
Mr. Graves was a U.S. Army Veteran who served as a missile mechanic in Germany from 1957 to 1959. He later became a civil servant and retired from the Federal Government in 1997 as a sign painter and engraver from the Department of the Navy. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master (1974) of Naval Lodge No. 4, Washington, DC and Secretary Emeritus of the Circle Club of Master Masons of the District of Columbia.
He is survived by: two children, Joseph Arthur Graves III (Cynthia) of Capon Bridge, WV, and William Andrew Graves (Nancy Hale) of Falls Church, VA; one brother, James R. W. Graves (Alfretta) of Leonardtown, MD; two sisters, Mary Frances Abell of Avenue, MD, and Rose Marie Graves of Alexandria, VA; and grandchildren, Mary Jean Graves, Katherine Mae Graves, Joseph Arthur Graves IV, and Russell James Graves. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Wilhelmina Wood and Lilly Latham.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor David Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524 and Culpeper American Legion Post 330.
