Joseph John Conte's Obituary
Joseph John Conte, Sr., age 78, of Ashburn, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, New York on Dec. 11, 1932 to the late John Conte and Eva DeNardo Conte. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and went to serve his country during the Korean War. Mr. Conte was a Meteorologist and Senior Systems Engineer, retired after thirty-eight years of employment with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Upon formal retirement, he engaged in contract work for the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, General Sciences Corporation, and others through his companies, VIBES, Inc. and TAG. He published his first book "Down the Yellow Brick Road”, which chronicled his journey as a caretaker and his wife's journey as a victim of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Joseph was a recipient of various medals and recognitions- such as Who's Who in America and Who's Who International Achievers. He was the Chairman of "The Constance Joan Schneider Conte ALS Group, Inc."
Survivors include six children, Joseph Conte, Michael Conte, Mark Conte, Richard Conte, Vincent Conte and Celeste King; a brother, John P. Conte; and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Constance Conte, in 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, June 17th at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
